North Lonsdale Rural District

North Lonsdale was a rural district in the county of Lancashire, England from 1894 to 1974. It was created in 1894 as the Ulverston Rural District, and was renamed in 1960. It covered all of North Lonsdale, apart from the towns of Barrow-in-Furness, Dalton-in-Furness, Grange and Ulverston. It was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972. It was combined with Grange and Ulverston, along with districts from other counties, to form the district of South Lakeland in Cumbria.

Peel Island, Cumbria

Peel Island (formerly known as Montague Island or the Gridiron) is one of the three islands of Coniston Water in the English Lake District, Cumbria. The two others are Fir Island (which is connected to the shore unless the water is particularly high) and Oak Island. It is most famous for being the inspiration for Arthur Ransome's Wild Cat Island. Today, it is a popular tourist destination, and belongs to the National Trust.

Beacon Fell, Cumbria

Beacon Fell is a fell located in the southern Lake District of England with an altitude of 836 feet . It is the subject of a chapter of Wainwright's book The Outlying Fells of Lakeland. Geographically, the fell is located in the Blawith Fells to the west of the bottom end of Coniston Water. The fell is above Beacon Tarn and can be accessed from quiet paths off the main road from Water Yeat to Torver.

Furness

Furness is a peninsula and region in south Cumbria, England. While the name originated strictly from to the peninsula only, it is also used to more broadly refer to the whole of North Lonsdale, that part of the Lonsdale hundred that is an exclave of the historic county of Lancashire, lying to the north of Morecambe Bay. As Lancashire and North Lonsdale are no longer administrative boundaries, the use of the word Furness for the whole area has increased.
