Naze

The Naze is a headland on the east coast of England. It is on the coast of Essex just north of Blackwater and projects into the North Sea. This area is south of the double estuary of the River Stour and River Orwell at Harwich and just north of the town of Walton-on-the-Naze. The Naze is a peninsula north of the town. It is important for migrating birds and it has a small nature reserve.

Horsey Island

Horsey Island is an inhabited and privately owned island near Frinton-on-Sea, Essex. Permission is required to visit. It is linked to the mainland by a causeway that can be walked with care at low tide, and is one of 43 (unbridged) tidal islands that can be walked to from the mainland of Great Britain. The island features in Arthur Ransome's children's novel Secret Water.

The Sokens

The Sokens is a name often used to describe the area containing the traditional parishes of Thorpe, Kirby and Walton, which now lie in Tendring district in the Naze area of northeast Essex. The significance of this grouping is now mostly historical.

Kirby Cross railway station

Kirby Cross railway station serves the village of Kirby Cross in Essex, England. It was opened on 27 July 1866 as part of the Tendring Hundred line which was to link Colchester with Walton-on-the-Naze. A PERTIS self-service permit-to-ticket machine is available, located at the entrance to the eastbound platform. The station has eastbound and westbound platform lines but east and west of the station is single-track. The station was de-staffed in the 1990s.
