Chaldon Herring

Chaldon Herring or East Chaldon is a village in the English county of Dorset. It is situated within the Purbeck administrative district of the county, eight miles south-east of the county town of Dorchester. It is sited two miles from the coast amongst the chalk hills of the South Dorset Downs, the highest point in the area being Chaldon Hill about a mile and a half to the south overlooking the sea. It has a population of 166 (2001). 11.9% of dwellings are second homes.

Winfrith

Winfrith was a United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority site near Winfrith Newburgh in Dorset. It covered an area on Bovington Heath to the west of the village of Wool between the A352 road and the London Waterloo to Weymouth railway line. It opened in 1958 and was used for nuclear reactor research and development into the 1990s. The last reactor was shut down in 1995, although decommissioning of the site will not finish till 2018.

Dragon reactor

Dragon was a high temperature gas cooled reactor at Winfrith in England operated by UKAEA. Its purpose was to test fuel and materials for the European high temperature reactor programme, and was built and managed as an Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development/Nuclear Energy Agency international project. Dragon used helium gas as coolant and coated particle fuel.

Bat's Head

Bat's Head is a chalk headland on the Dorset coast in southern England, located between Swyre Head and Durdle Door to the east, and Chaldon Hill and White Nothe to the west. There is a small but very visible cave at the base of the headland known as Bat's Cave. A spectacular path, part of the South West Coast Path, runs along the coast through rolling green downland countryside to the north of Bat's Head.
