Northwest Highlands
The Northwest Highlands are the northern third of Scotland that is separated from the Grampian Mountains by the Great Glen (Glen More). The region comprises Wester Ross, Assynt, Caithness and Sutherland. The Caledonian Canal, which extends from Loch Linnhe in the west, via Loch Ness to the Moray Firth in the north splits this area from the rest of the country.

A839 road
The A839 road is in Sutherland, in the Highland area of Scotland. It runs generally west from the A9 at The Mound near Golspie, via Rogart and Lairg, to the A837 at Rosehall. The Mound is a causeway or bridge carrying the A9 across the estuary of the River Fleet. Between The Mound and Lairg the A839 is in Strath Fleet. Rogart and Lairg have railway stations on the Far North Line.

Loch Shin
Loch Shin is a loch in the Scottish North West Highlands. To the south is the small town of Lairg. The loch is the largest in Sutherland, runs from the north-west to the south-east and is 17 miles (27.2 kilometre) long. In the 1950s, the level of the loch was raised by over 30 feet (10 metres) by the construction of Lairg Dam by Wimpey Construction as part of a hydro-electric scheme.
