Virley

Virley is a village in the Colchester borough of Essex, England and forms part of the Winstred Hundred civil parish. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 61. The village is about seven miles south of Colchester. Virley is among the villages which suffered damage from the 1884 Colchester earthquake; the village church was destroyed in the quake.

White House Farm murders

The White House Farm murders took place near the English village of Tolleshunt D'Arcy, Essex, on 7 August 1985, when Nevill Bamber, a farmer and magistrate, his wife June, their adoptive daughter Sheila Caffell, and her six-year-old twin sons, were shot and killed during the night inside the Bambers' farmhouse. The police at first believed that Sheila, diagnosed with schizophrenia, had fired the shots then turned the gun on herself.
