Virley

Virley is a village in the Colchester borough of Essex, England and forms part of the Winstred Hundred civil parish. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 61. The village is about seven miles south of Colchester. Virley is among the villages which suffered damage from the 1884 Colchester earthquake; the village church was destroyed in the quake.

Patriarchal Stavropegic Monastery of St. John the Baptist

The Patriarchal Stavropegic Monastery of St John the Baptist is a monastic community for both men and women, directly under the Ecumenical Patriarchate. It is located in Tolleshunt Knights, near Maldon, Essex, in England, and is the oldest Orthodox religious community in the UK.

Kelvedon and Tollesbury Light Railway

The Kelvedon and Tollesbury Light Railway, authorised under the Light Railways Act 1896 operated between the two villages of Kelvedon and Tollesbury to the south of Colchester in Essex, England. The line, which was part of the Great Eastern Railway (GER), was authorised on 29 January 1901, although its opening was delayed until 1 October 1904. The area served by the railway lay between the GER main line and the coast, mostly agricultural land, with fruit being a main crop.
