Tynron Doon

Tynron Doon is a multivallate iron age hill fort outside the village of Tynron in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It was occupied on and off from the 1st millennium BC until the 16th century, when an L shaped tower house stood there. Tynron Doon lies at the southern end of the Scaur hills. A common site for crew sessions, the hill has become weary and coated with Tennents and human excrement, mainly that of the Gordon clan.

Cademuir International School

Cademuir International School was a specialist school located in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The school, founded by Robert Mulvey in 1990, was created to serve high ability learners and underachievers with high potential. Latterly based at Crawfordton House, Moniaive, a listed building, it previously operated from near Peebles. In 2002, the school was ranked second of 418 schools in Scotland for Higher Grade results.

Shinnel Water

Shinnel Water, also spelt Shinnell, is a river in the region of Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It rises in the Scaur hills hills of Tynron Parish in the Southern Uplands at an altitude of 460m, and flows 13 miles to join Scaur Water near Penpont, at an altitude of 70m. There are two notable features of the Shinnel: at the confluence of the two rivers, it flows over a ridge of rocks with some force; and three miles upstream, the river forms a picturesque waterfall at Aird Linn.

Kirkland railway station

Kirkland (NX810897) was one of the minor stations on the Cairn Valley Light Railway branch, from Dumfries. It served the rural area around Kirkland as a request stop, close to the terminus at Moniaive in Dumfries and Galloway The line was closed to passengers during WW2.
