Abergwesyn

Abergwesyn is a village in the Welsh county of Powys, in mid-Wales, at the start of the Abergwesyn valley and the confluence of the Afon Irfon and the Afon Gwesyn. Abergwesyn Commons (16,500 acres) stretch for 12 miles between the Nant Irfon valley and Llanwrthwl. They are rich in archaeology, including Bronze Age ritual sites and deserted medieval villages. A National Trust project is focused on the preservation of the peatland.

Vicarage Meadows

Vicarage Meadows is a Site of Special Scientific Interest near Abergwesyn, Powys, Wales. The 3.6 hectares site, located close to the Nant Irfon National Nature Reserve, has unimproved acid grassland on which grow the small-white orchid, the fragrant orchid, the Greater Butterfly orchid and the Wood Bitter-velch. The site is grazed by Exmoor ponies.

Nant Irfon National Nature Reserve

Nant Irfon National Nature Reserve is a National Nature Reserve located high in the hills above the Afon Irfon valley near the village of Abergwesyn in Powys, Wales. It is surrounded by vast moorlands and striking conifer forests. Its steep slopes and rocky crags are covered with oak woodland, which is some of the highest in Wales. In late spring, swathes of bluebells transform the woodland floor.

Gorllwyn

Gorllwyn is a subsidiary summit of Drygarn Fawr, located on a remote moorland plateau of the Cambrian Mountains. The summit is grassy and is surrounded by peat bog. There is a shelter cairn and a trig point. To the west is Drygarn Fawr, its large carins making it a very distinctive feature in an otherwise featureless plateau. Drygarn Fawr is separated from Gorllwyn by the pass of Bwlch y Ddau Faen. To the east the plateau continues towards Y Gamriw.

Drygarn Fawr

Drygarn Fawr is a mountain in the county of Powys, Wales. It is one of the highest summits in Mid Wales standing at 645 metres above sea level. Rising above the remote moorland plateau of the Cambrian Mountains, the summit is topped by two distinctive, large cairns. The mountain has a gentle, grassy, conical shape with a few rocks near the summit. Nearby are the summits of Gorllwyn and Y Gamriw, both over 600m. There are two paths to the summit which can offer impressive views.
