Taff-Ely

Taff-Ely was a local government district in Wales from 1974 to 1996. It was formed in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, by a merger of the urban district of Pontypridd, along with Llantrisant and Llantwit Farde Rural District, the Taff's Well ward of Caerphilly urban district, the Llanilltern and Pentyrch parishes from Cardiff Rural District and Llanharan, Llanharry, Llanilid and Peterson-super-Montem parishes from Cowbridge Rural District.

Llantrisant rail accident

On 12 August 1893 a T-link broke beneath a locomotive running down the bank from Merthyr to Cardiff hauling a passenger train. This allowed an underhung spring to break away from the engine and foul the wheels of the leading van, derailing the entire train. The first six carriages ran down an embankment, killing thirteen.

Treforest Estate railway station

Treforest Estate railway station is a small railway station built to serve the workers of Treforest Industrial Estate. It is located on the Merthyr Line,Bad rounding here{{#invoke:Math|precision_format| 14*1,000/1,609.344 | 1-0 }} miles (14 km) north west of Cardiff Central. Passenger services are provided by Arriva Trains Wales. Previously the station was a request stop only. However, recently the station has become a scheduled stop for trains to and from Merthyr Tydfil only.

Upper Boat

Upper Boat is a village on the southernmost outskirts of the town of Pontypridd, within the electoral ward of Hawthorn, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales, and comprises part of the Treforest Industrial Estate. Historically it fell within the parish of Eglwysilan, Mid Glamorgan. It is currently known in media circles for being home to BBC Wales's Upper Boat Studios, where the hit revised version of Doctor Who, as well as spin-offs Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures, is produced.
