Llanymawddwy
Llanymawddwy is a village in Gwynedd, Wales, which is to the north of the larger village of Dinas Mawddwy, on the minor road which connects Dinas Mawddwy to Llanuwchllyn over Bwlch y Groes. The most notable building is St. Tydecho parish church, where the tradition of singing Matins endures. Alfred George Edwards, the first Archbishop of the disestablished Church in Wales, was born in Llanymawddwy in 1848.

Dinas Mawddwy
Dinas Mawddwy is a village in Gwynedd, north Wales, just to the side of the A470 so that most visitors pass the village by. Its population is roughly 600. The village marks the junction of the unclassified road to Llanuwchllyn which climbs up through the mountains to cross Bwlch y Groes at its highest point, the highest road pass in Wales. This minor road also provides the closest access to the mountain Aran Fawddwy.

Bwlch y Groes
Bwlch y Groes (Pass of the Cross) is one of the highest public road mountain pass in Wales, with a summit altitude of 545 metres . It lies on minor roads linking Dinas Mawddwy, Llanuwchllyn and Lake Vyrnwy. The cross, just below the summit at the junction of the roads from Vyrnwy and from Dinas Mawddwy, commemorates the place of the pass on a pilgrim route from north Wales. The view from the pass encompasses the plain of the Dyfi valley, Cadair Idris and a close view of Aran Fawddwy.

Esgeiriau Gwynion
Esgeiriau Gwynion is a mountain in north east Wales. It is the smallest of the three Marilyns that form the Aran range, the others being Aran Fawddwy and Glasgwm. The peak is situated to the east of Aran Fawddwy, separated by Bwlch Sirddyn, and stretches right the way round Cwn Cynllwyd towards the Berwyn range at Foel y Geifr. The tops are all boggy in character, all rising from a wild, peat bog plateau. A road penetrates the plateau at Bwlch y Groes.

Aran Benllyn
Aran Benllyn is a subsidiary summit of Aran Fawddwy in southern Snowdonia, North Wales, Wales, United Kingdom. It is the second highest peak in the Aran mountain range. It rises from the south shore of Llyn Tegid, and tops the northern point on the main Aran ridge. In between it and Aran Fawddwy lies another summit: Erw y Ddafad-ddu. The summit has a few rocky outcrops and is marked by a small cairn.
