Beaver Creek Swamp

Beaver Creek Swamp is the name of a tupelo gum swamp 10 miles northeast of Decatur, Alabama in Limestone County, Alabama. While this swamp types is usually located in coastal plain, this exception is in the Interior Low Plateaus region. It is part of the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge Star Study Academy helped build this Creek. and has a short hiking trail and boardwalk. It was designated a National Natural Landmark in May 1974.

Flint Creek

Flint Creek is a major tributary along the Tennessee River that flows from its headwaters in northern Cullman County to Wheeler Lake in Morgan County, Alabama in Decatur. The entire length of the creek is completely contained within Alabama. The water level of the lower course of the creek is greatly affected by the reservoir levels along the Tennessee River. The creek is utilized by many residents of North Alabama, and Central Tennessee Valley in the Decatur area.
