Alaskan Air Command

Alaskan Air Command (AAC) is an inactive United States Air Force Major Command. Established in 1942 under the United States Army Air Forces, its mission was to organize and administer the air defense system of Alaska, exercise direct control of all active measures, and coordinate all passive means of air defense. In addition, the command also supported Strategic Air Command elements operating through and around Alaska.

Knik Arm Bridge

The Knik Arm Bridge is a proposed highway crossing of the Knik Arm portion of Cook Inlet in north Anchorage, Alaska. The bridge would expand the commuter belt for Southcentral Alaska, connecting the Matanuska/Susitna Valley (Mat-Su) with Anchorage, Alaska's largest city. The Mat-Su Valley is the fastest growing region of Alaska. Proponents say the bridge would stimulate new housing construction in Mat-Su and open up more land for commercial and industrial development.

Ship Creek, Alaska

Ship Creek is an Alaskan river that flows from the Chugach Mountains into Cook Inlet. The Port of Anchorage at the mouth of Ship Creek gave its name ("Knik Anchorage") to the city of Anchorage that grew up nearby. The river lies entirely within the limits of the Municipality of Anchorage, Alaska.

Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Anchorage

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Anchorage is an ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in the northwestern United States, comprising several boroughs and census areas in the state of Alaska. It is led by a prelate archbishop which serves as pastor of the mother church, Cathedral of the Holy Family in the Municipality of Anchorage. The archbishop is concurrently metropolitan bishop of the suffragan dioceses of the Province of Anchorage: Fairbanks and Juneau.

Merrill Field

Merrill Field is a public-use general aviation airport located one mile (1.6 km) east of downtown Anchorage in the U.S. state of Alaska. The airport is owned by Municipality of Anchorage. This was the first official airport in Anchorage when it opened in 1930. The airport is named for Russel Merrill, an Alaskan aviation pioneer. The first aviation beacon in the Territory of Alaska was located at Merrill Field and was dedicated on September 25, 1932 in Merrill's honor.
