Valdez is a city in Valdez-Cordova Census Area in the U.S. state of Alaska. According to the 2010 US Census, the population of the city is 3,976. The city is one of the most important ports in Alaska. The port of Valdez was named in 1790 after the Spanish naval officer Antonio Valdés y Fernández Bazán.

Prince William Sound Community College

Founded in 1978, Prince William Sound Community College (also known as PWSCC or P-Dub) is a community college located in Valdez, a coastal town and major port in south central Alaska. PWSCC comprises three campuses. The main campus is in Valdez. The Copper Basin extension campus is in Glennallen, and another is in Cordova. The college is part of the University of Alaska Anchorage under the aegis of the University of Alaska System. P-Dub services approximately 44,000 sq. mi.
