Begich Towers
The Begich Towers were constructed in 1952 by the U.S. Army as the Hodge Building along with the Buckner Building. These two buildings were the only two built in a project of ten buildings. It is called a city under one roof. When the Army pulled out of Whittier in 1960 it came into civilian ownership. The building is fourteen stories tall with the first and fourteenth floors zoned commercial. There are 196 units in the building.

Portage Glacier
Portage Glacier is a glacier on the Kenai Peninsula of the U.S. state of Alaska and is included within the Chugach National Forest. It is located south of Portage Lake and 6 km (4 mi) west of Whittier. Portage Glacier was a local name first recorded in 1898 by Thomas Corwin Mendenhall of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, so called because it is on a portage route between Prince William Sound and Turnagain Arm.

Portage Lake (Alaska)
Portage Lake is a glacial lake in the Chugach National Forest of Alaska. It sits in a long, heavily glaciated valley, and abuts the calving face of Portage Glacier at its southern end. The lake has only become visible since approximately 1914, with the rapid retreat of Portage Glacier.
