Pine Hills, California

Pine Hills is a census-designated place (CDP) in Humboldt County, California, United States, adjacent to Eureka. The population was 3,131 at the 2010 census, up from 3,108 at the 2000 census. An area near this artificial census construct is called Pine Hill by Local government agencies and officials. Pine Hill is a much smaller area than "Pine Hills," which includes areas like Ridgewood and areas as far south as the small neighborhood of Elk River.

Humboldt Bay Nuclear Power Plant

The Humboldt Bay Nuclear Power Plant is a 63 MWe boiling water reactor, owned by Pacific Gas and Electric Company that operated from August 1963 to July 1976 just south of Eureka, California. Concern about previously undiscovered seismic faults combined with more stringent requirements required after the Three Mile Island accident rendered the small plant unprofitable if restarted. (The TMI accident occurred in 1979, so is unlikely as the reason) It was shut down permanently in July 1976.

Humboldt Bay

Humboldt Bay is a natural bay and a multi-basin, bar-built coastal lagoon located on the rugged North Coast of California, United States entirely within Humboldt County. It is the largest protected body of water on the West Coast between San Francisco Bay and Puget Sound and the largest port between San Francisco and Coos Bay, Oregon. The regional center and county seat of Eureka and college town Arcata adjoin the bay, which is the second largest enclosed bay in California.

Humboldt Bay Harbor Recreation & Conservation District

The Humboldt Bay Harbor Recreation & Conservation District (HBHRCD), created in 1972 by local voters, is the governing body of the Port of Humboldt Bay, a deep water port, and the Port of Eureka. Facilities include those in Eureka (Port of Eureka), the principal city of the region, and much larger facilities in the smaller unincorporated communities Samoa, Fairhaven, and Field's Landing (all in Greater Eureka) on the shore of the adjacent peninsula, known as Samoa.
