Swanton, California, is a small community in an unincorporated area of Santa Cruz County on the Pacific Ocean, situated about 5 miles north of the town of Davenport, on Swanton Road. The US Geographical Survey designates Swanton as a populated place, located at latitude: 37.06417 and longitude: -122.22639 with an elevation of 135 ft . Ranched with dairy cattle since the California Gold Rush, Swanton was named after Fred Swanton, builder of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

Rancho Agua Puerca y las Trancas

Rancho Agua Puerca y las Trancas was a 4,421-acre Mexican land grant in present day Santa Cruz County, California given in 1843 by Governor Manuel Micheltorena to Ramón Rodríguez and Francisco Alviso. "Agua Puerca" means "dirty water ravine" probably refers to the stagnant water in the stream which comes out at Davenport Landing, the original southerly boundary.

Rancho San Vicente (Escamilla)

Rancho San Vicente was a 10,803-acre Mexican land grant in present day Santa Cruz County, California given in 1846 by Governor Pío Pico to Blas A. Escamilla. The grant extended along the Pacific coast from Molino Creek and Rancho Agua Puerca y las Trancas south past Davenport Landing to San Vicente Creek and Rancho Arroyo de la Laguna. The grant stretched from the coast back into the Santa Cruz Mountains between the two neighboring ranchos.

Greyhound Rock State Marine Conservation Area

Greyhound Rock State Marine Conservation Area (SMCA) is one of two adjoining marine protected areas off the coast of San Mateo County and Santa Cruz County, on California’s central coast. The area is approximately 55 miles south of San Francisco. The SMCA is 11.81 square miles . Within the SMCA fishing and take of all living marine resources is prohibited except the recreational take of giant kelp, squid, salmon, and other finfish, subject to various conditions.

Rancho Del Oso Nature and History Center

Rancho Del Oso Nature and History Center interprets the cultural and natural history of the area of Rancho del Oso (ranch of the bear) which became part of California's Big Basin Redwoods State Park, in the 1970s. The center is located on Highway 1 16 miles north of Santa Cruz, California. Rancho del Oso has trails that traverse the park habitats. There are soggy marshes, grassy meadows, gurgling creeks, hardwood forests and pine forests.
