Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery

Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery is located at 10621 Victory Boulevard in North Hollywood, California. The cemetery has a special section called the Portal of the Folded Wings Shrine to Aviation that is the final resting place for a number of aviation pioneers — barnstormers, daredevils and sundry architects of aviation. There is a memorial to Amelia Earhart and others, honoring their accomplishments. Among those interred here are some celebrities from the entertainment industry.

Skunk Works

Skunk Works is an official alias for Lockheed Martin’s Advanced Development Programs (ADP), formerly called Lockheed Advanced Development Projects. Skunk Works is responsible for a number of famous aircraft designs, including the U-2, the SR-71 Blackbird, the F-117 Nighthawk, and the F-22 Raptor. Currently its largest officially known project is the F-35 Lightning II, which will be used in the air forces of several countries. Production is expected to last for up to four decades.

Battle of Providencia

Battle of Providencia (also called the Second Battle of Cahuenga Pass) took place in 1845 on Rancho Providencia in the San Fernando Valley of southern California. It was a battle rooted in the fact that Mexico was choosing Mexicans to be Governors of Alta California instead of Californians. In 1842, the Mexican government appointed Manuel Micheltorena as governor. The native-born Californios did not like him and, by 1844, a revolt began.
