Donner Lake
Donner Lake is a freshwater lake in northeast California on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada and about 11 miles northwest of the much larger Lake Tahoe. A moraine serves as a natural dam for the lake. The lake is located in the town of Truckee, sandwiched between Interstate 80 to the north and Schallenberger Ridge to the south. The tracks of the Union Pacific Railroad run along Schallenberger Ridge and closely follow the route of the original transcontinental railroad.

Boreal Mountain Resort
Boreal Mountain Resort is a ski area in Soda Springs, near the Lake Tahoe area of California. It has nine chair lifts and offers night skiing until 9 pm. It is owned by Powdr Corporation. Located on Highway 80, West of Truckee, California, Boreal typically is the first area to open for skiing and snowboarding in Northern California. Although it is relatively small compared to other Tahoe area resorts, Boreal hosted the US Snowboarding Grand Prix in 2009.
