Blue River (Colorado)

The Blue River is a tributary of the Colorado River, approximately 65 miles long, in the U.S. state of Colorado. It rises in southern Summit County, on the western side of the continental divide in the Ten Mile Range, near Quandary Peak. It flows north past Blue River and Breckenridge, then through the Dillon Reservoir near Dillon. North of Dillon it flows NNW along the eastern slope of the Gore Range and joins the Colorado at Kremmling.

Breckenridge is a home rule municipality that is the county seat of Summit County, Colorado, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the town had a population of 4,540. The town also has many part-time residents, as many people have vacation homes in the area. The town also has a large ski resort with multi-difficulty ski slopes across 4 peaks on the Ten Mile Range of the Rocky Mountains.

It is notable for its 13,420 foot (4,090 m) elevation, making it the highest lake in the United States whose name is recognized by the United States Board on Geographic Names.
