Lake County, Colorado

Lake County is one of the 64 counties of the State of Colorado of the United States. The highest natural point in Colorado and the entire Rocky Mountains is the summit of Mount Elbert in Lake County at 14,440 feet (4401.2 meters) elevation. The county population was 7,812 at U.S. Census 2000. The county seat and the only municipality in the county is the City of Leadville. The Edwards Micropolitan Statistical Area comprises Eagle County and Lake County.

Twin Lakes Dam

Twin Lakes Dam (National ID # CO02045) is a dam in Lake County, Colorado, about 13 miles south of Leadville. The earthen dam was constructed in 1978 by the United States Bureau of Reclamation with a height of 53 feet and a length at its crest of 3150 feet.

Lake County Airport, also known as Leadville Airport, is a county-owned public-use airport located two nautical miles (3.7 km) southwest of the central business district of Leadville, a city in Lake County, Colorado, United States. According to the FAA's National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2009–2013, it is categorized as a general aviation airport. At an elevation of 9,927 ft (3,026 m) above mean sea level the airport claims the distinction of being North America's highest.

Oro City was the site of the single richest placer gold strike in the entire Pikes Peak rush. In just seven years ten tons of gold were mined from California Gulch.
