Baxley, Georgia

Baxley is a city in Appling County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 4,400. The city is the county seat of Appling County. Baxley was first settled as a result of the Macon & Brunswick Railroad being built through Appling County in 1870. Originally, it was a railroad depot known as Station Number 7, but it soon was named Baxley (after one of the community's first settlers, William Baxley of North Carolina).

Georgia State Prison

Georgia State Prison is the main maximum security facility in the state of Georgia. Located on Georgia Highway 147 in unincorporated Tattnall County, outside of Reidsville, It is a part of the Georgia Department of Corrections. "GSP" houses approximately 1550 inmates. The current warden is Bruce Chatman. Georgia State Prison was the first US prison to be accredited by the American Medical Association and the American Correctional Association.

It has approximately 1,000 students and 70 teachers in grades 9-12.
