Battle of Utoy Creek

The Battle of Utoy Creek was fought August 4 –7, 1864, during the Atlanta Campaign of the American Civil War. Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman's Union armies had partially encircled the city of Atlanta, Georgia, which was being held by Confederate forces under the command of General John Bell Hood. Sherman had at this point adopted a strategy of attacking the railroad lines into Atlanta, hoping to cut off his enemies' supplies.

Fort McPherson

Fort McPherson was a U.S. Army military base located in East Point, Georgia, on the southwest edge of the City of Atlanta, Ga. It was the headquarters for the U.S. Army Installation Management Command, Southeast Region; the U.S. Army Forces Command; the U.S. Army Reserve Command; the U.S. Army Central Command. Named after Major General James Birdseye McPherson, this fort was founded by the U.S. Army in September 1885.

Oakland City (MARTA station)

Oakland City is an elevated Rail station on the Red and Gold lines of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail system. It has one island platform between two tracks. It was opened on December 15, 1984. For both entrances to this station, you have to go through the fare gates and an underground passageway to go up to the platform. On the Lee St. entrance (on the west side of station), you go through fare gates, then the passageway goes under the street.

Lakewood / Fort McPherson (MARTA station)

Lakewood / Fort McPherson is an at-grade Rail station on the Red and Gold lines of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail system. It has an island platform between two tracks. It was opened on December 15, 1984. The set up for this station is like many on the East-West line. The way to get to the platform is like at Oakland City only there is a bridge over the road instead of an underpass.

Battle of Ezra Church

The Battle of Ezra Church, also known as the Battle of Ezra Chapel and the Battle of the Poor House was fought on July 28, 1864, in Fulton County, Georgia, during the American Civil War. The battle was part of the Atlanta Campaign, which featured Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman's Union Army of the Tennessee against the Army of Tennessee, commanded by Lt. Gen. John B. Hood, which was defending the Confederate stronghold of Atlanta, Georgia.
