Walker County, Georgia

Walker County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. It was created on December 18, 1833 from land formerly belonging to the Cherokee Indian Nation. As of the 2010 census, the population was 68,756. The county seat is LaFayette. Walker County is part of the Chattanooga, TN–GA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Walker County is one of only nine counties in the United States still employing the sole commissioner form of government.

Petty John's Cave

Pettijohn's Cave has a surveyed length of 31,490 feet and reaches a depth of 235 ft. It is located in Walker County, Georgia on the east side Pigeon Mountain in the Appalachian Plateaus of Northwest Georgia. The cave is accessed via a path from a gravel parking area on the side of the road. Out of the 242 listed it is 119th longest cave in the United States as declared by the Georgia Speleological Survey. Pettijohn's Cave is a very popular cave for local students and spelunkers.
