Carters Lake

Carters Lake, the deepest of Georgia's reservoir lakes, is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains in both Gilmer and Murray County. It was named after Farrish Carter who lived in the 19th century. It has a surface area of 3,200 acres and has 62 miles of shoreline. Carters Lake is also more than 450 feet deep. Carters Lake, owned by the US Army Corps of Engineers, is a man-made lake without private docks or houses along its shore.

WNSY

WNSY FM 100.1 is a radio station in northwest Georgia that simulcasts WLKQ-FM "La Raza", with a regional Mexican format. First applied-for in 1995, it went on the air as WCHK-FM in 1998. The original WCHK-FM 105.5 is now WWVA-FM 105.7 and owned by Clear Channel. The station became oldies Sunny 100 in 1999. WNSY has Talking Rock, Georgia as its city of license, with a transmitter near Jasper, Georgia. Both are to the far north-northwest of Atlanta, well beyond even the exurbs of metro Atlanta.

Carters Dam

for the dam in Colorado, see Carter Lake Dam Carters Dam is an earthen embankment dam located south of Chatsworth in Murray County and west of Ellijay in the U.S. state of Georgia. The dam is 445 ft (136 m) tall and is situated 26.8 miles above the mouth of the Coosawattee River. The drainage area is 376 square miles (974 km²). It creates Carters Lake, the deepest lake in Georgia. The dam took 15 years to build and was completed in 1977.

East Ellijay, Georgia

East Ellijay is a city in Gilmer County, Georgia, United States. The population was 546 at the 2010 census, down from 707 in 2000. As its name suggests, it is just east of Ellijay, Georgia, the site of a Cherokee settlement, one of several with the name. In Cherokee the name is properly rendered "Elatseyi" (abbreviated to "Elatse"), which can be translated as "green verdant earth", suggesting fresh-springing vegetation. It was variously spelled Ellijay, Elejoy, and Allagae.
