Kalawao is an unincorporated town on the Kalaupapa Peninsula of the island of Molokai, in eastern Kalawao County, Hawaii, United States. It is the smaller of the two communities in Kalawao County, which was established as a leper colony separate from Maui County, which governs the rest of the island.

Kalawao County, Hawaii

Kalawao County is a county located in the U.S. state of Hawaii. The county is on the Kalaupapa or Makanalua Peninsula, on the north coast of the island of Molokaʻi. The small peninsula of Kalaupapa is isolated from the rest of Molokaʻi by sea cliffs over a quarter-mile high—the only land access is a mule trail.
