Koloa, Hawaii
Kōloa is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kauaʻi County, Hawaiʻi, United States. The population was 1,942 at the 2000 census. Kōloa is often incorrectly translated as native duck, which is the correct translation for the similar-looking koloa. Kōloa has no known translation. According to one account, the district Kōloa was named for a steep rock called Pali-o-kō-loa which was found in 'Waikomo' stream. The first successful sugar plantation in the Islands was started here in 1835.

McBryde Garden
(252 acres) is a botanical garden located on the south shore of Kauai, Hawaii. It is one of five gardens of the non-profit National Tropical Botanical Garden (NTBG). The garden is situated above Lāwaʻi Bay, in a valley transected by the Lāwaʻi Stream. Queen Emma of Hawaii resided above this valley for a short interval, and a modest house that was perhaps her residence has subsequently been moved to the valley floor and renovated.
