Granite City, Illinois

Granite City is a city in Madison County, Illinois, United States, part of the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area. At the 2010 census, the population was 29,849, making it the second largest city in the Metro-East and Southern Illinois behind Belleville. Officially founded in 1896, Granite City was named by the Niedringhaus brothers who established it as a steel making company town for the manufacture of kitchen utensils made to resemble granite.

Hartford Castle

Hartford Castle is the ruins of a 19th century residence located near Hartford, Illinois. It is located at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:38|48|2|N|90|5|4|W| | |name= }} (38.800600, -90.084600) approximately 15 miles north of downtown St. Louis, Missouri. The mansion, known as "Lakeview" at the time of its construction in 1897, was built by a French immigrant by the name of Benjamin Biszant.

New Chain of Rocks Bridge

This article is about the bridge built in 1966 which currently carries I-270 traffic. For the older bridge which now carries pedestrian traffic, see Chain of Rocks Bridge. The New Chain of Rocks Bridge is a pair of bridges across the Mississippi River on the north edge of St. Louis, Missouri. It was constructed in 1966 to bypass the Chain of Rocks Bridge immediately to the south. It originally carried traffic for Bypass US 66 and currently carries traffic for Interstate 270.
