Granite City, Illinois

Granite City is a city in Madison County, Illinois, United States, part of the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area. At the 2010 census, the population was 29,849, making it the second largest city in the Metro-East and Southern Illinois behind Belleville. Officially founded in 1896, Granite City was named by the Niedringhaus brothers who established it as a steel making company town for the manufacture of kitchen utensils made to resemble granite.

Chain of Rocks Bridge

This article is about the bridge built in 1929 which used to carry U.S. Route 66, and currently carries pedestrian and bicycle traffic. For the bridge built in 1966 which carries I-270 traffic, see New Chain of Rocks Bridge. The Chain of Rocks Bridge spans the Mississippi River on the north edge of St. Louis, Missouri. The eastern end of the bridge is on Chouteau Island,, while the western end is on the Missouri shoreline. The bridge was for a time the route used by U.S.
