Dodge City is a city in, and the county seat of, Ford County, Kansas, United States. Named after nearby Fort Dodge, the city is famous in American culture for its history as a wild frontier town of the Old West. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 27,340.

Fort Dodge (United States Army Post)

The site of Fort Dodge in the US state of Kansas was originally an old campground for wagons traveling along the Santa Fe Trail. A military camp was established on the site in 1864, but was abandoned. The post was again established in early April 1865, possibly in the same location. There is controversy as to the exact date of the founding of Fort Dodge, as several sources disagree. However, evidence shows the fort was established between April 6 and 10, 1865. Capt.
