Lake Linville

Lake Linville is a 356-acre reservoir in Rockcastle County, Kentucky. It was created in 1968 by the construction of the earthen Renfro Dam, 72 feet high with a length of 1100 feet, owned and operated by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The dam is a highway fill embankment along Interstate 75.

Mount Vernon is a city in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,477 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Rockcastle County. It is located at the junction of U.S. Routes 25 and 150, two miles west of Interstate 75. Mount Vernon is part of the Richmond–Berea Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Great Saltpetre Cave

The Great Saltpetre Cave is a notable limestone cave located in Rockcastle County in southeastern Kentucky. During the War of 1812, it served as an important source of saltpeter, a vital component of gunpowder. Robert Baker discovered the cave in the late eighteenth century. A stream ran through the cave, and was wide enough so that oxcarts could be used to bring the saltpeter above ground.
