Carencro is a city in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana. It is a suburb of the nearby city of Lafayette. The population was 6,120 at the 2000 census. Its name comes from the Cajun French word for buzzard: the spot was one where large flocks of buzzards roosted in the bald cypress trees. The name means "carrion crow. " Carencro is part of the Lafayette Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The Lafayette Amtrak station is a train station in Lafayette, Louisiana, United States served by Amtrak, the national railroad passenger system. Lafayette Station was originally built by the Texas and New Orleans Railroad in either 1911 or 1912, but burned in a fire and abandoned on May 11, 2001. It was restored during the year 2002.

Cajun Field is a stadium located in the city of Lafayette, Louisiana. Nicknamed The Swamp, it is the home field of the Louisiana–Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette stadium is primarily used for its American football and women's soccer athletic teams. Cajun Field boasts 2,577 chairback seats and bleacher seating to the capacity of another 28,423, giving the stadium an official seating capacity of 31,000.
