Cloutierville, Louisiana

Cloutierville is an unincorporated community in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, United States. It lies about 20 miles south of the city of Natchitoches on exit 119 at Interstate 49. The community is part of the Natchitoches Micropolitan Statistical Area. This is a homeland of many multiracial Louisiana Creole people. The town was built on the plantation of Alexis Cloutier and incorporated in 1822. The plantation was later owned by Kate Chopin.

Derry, Louisiana

Derry is a town in unincorporated Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, United States, located on Louisiana Highway 1. It is the closest town to Magnolia Plantation, a National Historic Landmark. There is an abandoned school adjacent to the St. Matthew Baptist Church off Louisiana Highway 119 near Derry.

Colfax massacre

The Colfax massacre or Colfax Riot (as the events are termed on the official state historic marker) occurred on Easter Sunday, April 13, 1873, in Colfax, Louisiana, the seat of Grant Parish. In the wake of a contested election for governor of Louisiana and local offices, an armed group of whites, armed with rifles and a small cannon, overpowered freedmen and state militia (also black) trying to control the Grant Parish courthouse in Colfax. White Republican officeholders were not attacked.

Colfax is a town in and the parish seat of Grant Parish, Louisiana, United States. The town, founded in 1869, is named for the vice president of the United States, Schuyler M. Colfax, who served in the first term of U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant, for whom the parish is named. Colfax is part of the Alexandria, Louisiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,659 at the 2000 census.
