McCrea, Louisiana

McCrea is a small, unincorporated community on the east bank of the Atchafalaya River in the northwestern portion of Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana. it is located along Louisiana Highway 417, some distance north of East Krotz Springs, Louisiana. A post office opened here in 1902 but was discontinued in 1954. The community is named for Bob McCrea, an early settler who developed a plantation at the site prior to the Civil War.

Lacour, Louisiana

LaCour (pronounced Lah Coor) is an unincorporated community in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is near Old River, an oxbow lake in the Mississippi River system. It is the birthplace and childhood home of Major General John Archer Lejeune (1867-1942), former Commandant of the United States Marine Corps.

Angola Ferry

The Angola Ferry is a small and little-known ferry service that crosses the Mississippi River connecting Lettsworth, Louisiana with the Louisiana State Penitentiary, otherwise known as the Angola Prison. It is considered difficult to access, requiring drivers to branch off the Louisiana Highway 418 on an unmarked gravel road and traveling several hundred yards thereafter.

Morganza Spillway

The Morganza Spillway or Morganza Control Structure is a flood-control structure in the U.S. state of Louisiana along the western bank of the Mississippi River at river mile 280, near Morganza in Pointe Coupee Parish. The spillway stands between the Mississippi and the Morganza Floodway, which leads to the Atchafalaya Basin and the Atchafalaya River in south-central Louisiana.

Simmesport, Louisiana

Simmesport is a town in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 2,239 at the 2000 census. During the American Civil War, Union General Nathaniel P. Banks was superseded in command by E.R.S. Canby. General Ulysses S. Grant had sought Banks' removal for months, but U.S. President Abraham Lincoln would not dismiss Banks, who had strong political support in Congress.
