Isle de Jean Charles, Louisiana

Isle de Jean Charles (known locally in Louisiana French as Isle à Jean Charles) is a narrow ridge of land between Bayou Terrebonne and Bayou Pointe-au-Chien in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. It is home to many members of the Biloxi-Chitimacha tribe as well as a community of the Houma people. The Indian population on Isle de Jean Charles today is approximately 25 families. The isle has been affected by the induced and the natural subsidence of South Louisiana.

Lafourche Parish, Louisiana

Lafourche Parish (French: Paroisse de LaFourche) is a parish located in the south of the U.S. state of Louisiana. It was originally the northern part of Lafourche Interior Parish, which consisted of the present parishes of Lafourche and Terrebonne. The parish seat is Thibodaux. In 2010, its population was 96,318. Lafourche Parish is part of the Houma–Bayou Cane–Thibodaux Metropolitan Statistical Area. The state-recognized Native American Houma Tribe lives in Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes.
