Dead River (Androscoggin River)

The Dead River is a tributary of the Androscoggin River in western Maine in the United States. The river flows from Androscoggin Lake, northwest through the town of Leeds 7 miles to the Androscoggin. This sluggish river is the outlet of a chain of ponds, of which Androscoggin Pond is the largest and last. The river has the rare power of running either way at different times. Upon a sudden rise of the Androscoggin River, the flow sets back the current of Dead River into the pond.

Chisholm, Maine

Chisholm is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Jay in Franklin County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,399 at the 2000 census. It is an industrial village named for Hugh J. Chisholm, who built the Otis Falls Pulp & Paper Company here in 1888 to use Androscoggin River water power.
