Orono is a census-designated place (CDP) consisting of the eastern portion of the town of Orono in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. The population of the CDP was 9,474 at the 2010 census.

Fay Hyland Botanical Plantation

The Fay Hyland Botanical Plantation (also known as the Fay Hyland Arboretum), 10 acres (40,000 m²), is an arboretum and botanical garden located along the Stillwater River on the University of Maine campus in Orono, Maine, USA. It is open to the public daily. The Arboretum was established in 1934, named in honor of Fay Hyland, and contains living examples of woody plants from Maine and throughout the world.

Maynard F. Jordan Observatory

Maynard F. Jordan Observatory is an astronomical observatory owned and operated by University of Maine. Its first telescope was installed at the university in 1901. It is located in Orono, Maine, USA. It is the only public observatory in the state of Maine, USA. Operated by the department of Physics and Astronomy, the eight-inch Alvan Clark telescope is housed under a twelve-foot dome.

Collins Center for the Arts

The Collins Center for the Arts, formerly the Maine Center for the Arts (MCA), is a performing arts center and concert hall located on the campus of the University of Maine in Orono, Maine, USA. It has been operating since 1986, hosting both local and national artists. The Center is the home of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, the oldest continually-operating community orchestra in the US, founded in 1896. The UMaine performing arts groups are also based there.
