Au Sable River (Michigan)

The Au Sable River in Michigan, United States runs approximately 138 miles through the northern Lower Peninsula, through the towns of Grayling and Mio, and enters Lake Huron at Oscoda. It is considered one of the best brown trout fisheries east of the Rockies and has been designated a blue ribbon trout stream by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. In French, au sable literally means "with sand. " A 1795 map calls it the Beauais River.

Frederic Township, Michigan

Frederic Township is a civil township of Crawford County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,401 at the 2000 census. Frederic is an unincorporated community in the township on the middle branch of the Au Sable River at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:44|46|43|N|84|45|16|W|region:US-MI_type:city_scale:30000_source:GNIS | |name=Frederic }}. The ZIP code is 49733. It is about 10 miles northwest of Grayling via county roads.

Starvation Lake

Starvation Lake is a small recreational and fishing lake in Kalkaska County, in the U.S. state of Michigan. The 125-acre lake is approximately 0.8 miles long and has a maximum depth of 47 feet . The lake is fed primarily from submerged springs with the remainder from direct rainfall and runoff. The unusual name has been explained in local folklore. The area around the lake, prior to being developed, was used primarily for hunting and trapping.

Manistee River

The Manistee River in the U.S. state of Michigan, runs 190 miles through the northern Lower Peninsula, through the villages of Sharon, Smithville, and Mesick, and enters Lake Michigan at Manistee. It is considered, like the nearby Au Sable River, to be one of the best trout fisheries east of the Rockies. The river rises in the sand hills in southeastern Antrim County, on the border with Otsego County, about 6 miles southeast of the town of Alba.
