Frederic Township is a civil township of Crawford County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,401 at the 2000 census. Frederic is an unincorporated community in the township on the middle branch of the Au Sable River at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:44|46|43|N|84|45|16|W|region:US-MI_type:city_scale:30000_source:GNIS | |name=Frederic }}. Au Sable River (Michigan)
The Au Sable River in Michigan, United States runs approximately 138 miles through the northern Lower Peninsula, through the towns of Grayling and Mio, and enters Lake Huron at Oscoda. It is considered one of the best brown trout fisheries east of the Rockies and has been designated a blue ribbon trout stream by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. In French, au sable literally means "with sand. " A 1795 map calls it the Beauais River.

It is owned by United States Army. The airfield is located 7 miles northeast of the main cantonment area of Camp Grayling. Grayling AAF covers an area of 923 acres at an elevation of 1,158 feet (353 m) above mean sea level.
