South Lyon is a city in southwestern Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan, in Metro Detroit. The population was 11,327 at the 2010 census. The city is part of the South Lyon-Howell-Brighton Urban Area, which had a population of 106,139 according to the 2000 census. South Lyon is located in Oakland County's Lyon Township, near the Livingston County and Washtenaw County lines. The city is 19 miles north of Ann Arbor, 45 miles west of Detroit and 58 miles east of Lansing.

Green Oak Township, Michigan

Green Oak Charter Township is a charter township of Livingston County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the township population was 17,476. Oakland Southwest Airport is a county-owned public-use airport in Oakland County, Michigan, United States. It is located one nautical mile (1.85 km) southwest of the central business district of New Hudson. The airport is uncontrolled, and is used for general aviation purposes. This airport is included in the FAA's National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2009–2013, which categorized it as a reliever airport for Detroit Wayne County Metropolitan Airport.

Kensington, Michigan

Kensington was a former village in Oakland County, Michigan that suffered population loss when the railroad diverted the Detroit to Lansing traffic southward to South Lyon, Michigan. It was later entirely wiped out by the building of I-96 and Kensington Metropark. The State of Michigan still recognizes the location as an unincorporated community at Grand River Avenue on Kent Lake .
