Pascagoula River

The Pascagoula River is a river, about 80 miles (130 km) long, in southeastern Mississippi in the United States. The river drains an area of about 8,800 square miles (23,000 km²) and flows into Mississippi Sound of the Gulf of Mexico. The Pascagoula River Basin is managed by the Pat Harrison Waterway District. It is significant as the only unaffected (or nearly so) river flowing into the Gulf of Mexico from the United States, and is the only one in the Cfa Köppen climate zone.

Mobile District

The Mobile District was an administrative region of the Spanish territory of West Florida, which became part of the independent Republic of West Florida on September 23, 1810. The region was bounded in the north by the 31st parallel, in the south by the Gulf of Mexico, in the east by the Perdido River, and in the west by the Pearl River. The territory was annexed by the United States in 1812 and currently forms parts of the states of Mississippi and Alabama.

George County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of 2010, the population was 22,578. Its county seat is Lucedale. George County is named for James Z. George, US Senator from Mississippi. George County is included in the Pascagoula, Mississippi, Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is a dry county.

West Florida

West Florida was a region on the north shore of the Gulf of Mexico, which underwent several boundary and sovereignty changes during its history. The region was first explored and claimed by Spain in the 16th century. Pensacola was first founded by Spanish explorer Tristán de Luna y Arellano in 1559, though it was not permanently settled until 1698. It was later taken over by France in the early 18th century.
