Liberty is a town in Amite County, Mississippi. It is part of the McComb, Mississippi Micropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 633 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Amite County. Liberty was incorporated on February 24, 1809. The Mayor is Richard H. Stratton. There are eleven sites in or near Liberty that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Amite County, Mississippi

Amite County /ˈeɪ. mɛt/ is a county located in the state of Mississippi. As of 2010, the population is 13,131. It is named after the Amite River which is located in the county. The name is derived from the French amitié, meaning "friendship. " Its county seat is Liberty. Amite County is part of the McComb, Mississippi, Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Gloster, Mississippi

Gloster is a town in Amite County, Mississippi. The population was 1,073 at the 2000 census. It is part of the McComb, Mississippi Micropolitan Statistical Area. T. T. Martin, an evangelist and one of the most prominent figures in the anti-evolution movement in the 1920s, is buried in Gloster.

Gillsburg, Mississippi

Gillsburg is an unincorporated community in Amite County, Mississippi. The community is part of the McComb, Mississippi Micropolitan Statistical Area. It is best known as the location of the October 20 1977 plane crash that killed several members of the band Lynyrd Skynyrd. A rental plane carrying the band between shows from Greenville, South Carolina, to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was low on fuel and crashed in a swamp in Gillsburg.
