Claiborne County, Mississippi

Claiborne County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of 2010, the population was 9,604. Its county seat is Port Gibson. The county is named after William Claiborne, the second governor of the Mississippi Territory. According to the United States Census Bureau, this county has the third-largest percentage of black residents of any U.S. county, with blacks comprising an 84% majority of the population. The area was long a center of cotton plantations and related agriculture.

Rocky Springs, Mississippi

Rocky Springs is a ghost town and historic site located in Claiborne County, Mississippi, United States, between Old Port Gibson Road and the Natchez Trace Parkway (mile post 54.8). The old town site can be viewed by the public during daylight hours. Rocky Springs and the surrounding area is maintained by the National Park Service.

Gemiluth Chessed (Port Gibson, Mississippi)

Gemiluth Chessed (Acts of Loving Kindness) is a Moorish Revival synagogue in Port Gibson, Mississippi. It is the oldest surviving synagogue in the state and the only building of this architectural style. It was built in 1892 by a community of Jewish immigrants from German states and Alsace-Lorraine. Due to declining population, the congregation closed in 1986.
