Plew, Missouri

Plew is a small unincorporated community in western Lawrence County, Missouri, United States. Plew (pronounced "Ploo") is located on former U.S. Route 66, now Route 96. The town dates back to the early 1890s, but the origin of the name is unknown (plew is a slang term for a beaver pelt, so the name may derive from the rich history of trapping and fur trading in Missouri). Occasionally it was known as "Plewtite" which may have been a family name.

Rescue, Missouri

Rescue is a small unincorporated community in western Lawrence County, Missouri, United States. It lies along Route 96 approximately eighteen miles east of Carthage. Rescue dates before US 66, but the origin of the name and town are unknown. It had several business until the construction of Interstate 44 to the south caused a lack of business and the town reverted to a small residential community.
