Originally named Taylor but renamed Brimson in honour of William George Brimson who was vice president of the Quincy Omaha & Kansas City Railroad Co. The company laid the railroad from Chicago to Kansas City. He visited the town on several occasions with his daughter Alice WS Brimson.
