Strawberry Hill (Kansas City, Kansas)

Strawberry Hill is a Kansas City, Kansas neighborhood on the bluffs overlooking the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri Rivers. It is now a mainly South Slavic community. Strawberry Hill was previously known as Splitlog Hill, after Mathias Splitlog, a wealthy Indian mill owner who purchased the area and built a mansion on it in 1870. He later sold parcels to the Catholic church and to railroad interests.

Sumner Academy of Arts & Science

Sumner Academy of Arts and Science is a nationally ranked magnet school in Kansas City, Kansas which prepares students for high-level academic and creative pursuits. Named for abolitionist Charles Sumner, it started in 1905 during a period of racial tension as a segregated school for black students, emphasizing vocational training. Located at 1610 N. 8th Street, the current architecturally significant complex began with its Art Deco core in 1937, but has been repeatedly expanded.

Kansas City Southern Bridge

The Kansas City Southern Bridge is a rail crossing of the Kansas River. It has two main spans, and a smaller span at the west end. It is a thru-truss, and closed to traffic. It was built in 1905, by the Kansas City Southern Railway, and was closed in 1983. The bridge's rails are cut off at each end. It survived the 1951 Kansas City flood. It is located about 100 feet south of James Street over the Kansas River.

Kaw Point

Kaw Point is the name given to the point where the Kansas River terminates at the Missouri River in the West Bottoms area of Kansas City, Kansas. Kaw Point is also where the Missouri ceases its southerly course and turns to flow generally east through the State of Missouri to the Mississippi River at St. Louis.
