Sligo, Missouri

Sligo is an unincorporated community founded in 1886 in northeastern Dent County, Missouri, United States. It is located just off Route 19 about fourteen miles northeast of Salem. The building of the iron ore furnace by the Sligo Furnace Company brought many needed jobs to the residents of Dent County and the surrounding counties when it opened in 1880. A town was soon formed at the furnace site and was named Sligo after the parent company.

Cook Station, Missouri

Cook Station is an unincorporated community in southern Crawford County, Missouri, United States. It is located about ten miles south of Steelville. The village of Cook Station was named after Christopher Columbus Cook who was born Aug. 13, 1828 in Tennessee. Christopher Columbus Cook first visited Missouri in 1848, returned briefly to his native state, then came back to settle in Crawford County during the 1850s with his father and mother, David and Rhode Cook.
