Governor Furnas Arboretum

The Governor Furnas Arboretum is a young arboretum located in Brownville, Nebraska, United States. The arboretum was planted in 1992-1993, and became an affiliate of the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum in 1996. It now contains over 100 species, including European beech, sweetgum, blackgum, willow oak, fringe tree, Balkan pine, and Japanese kerria. The arboretum honors former Governor Robert W. Furnas, a Brownville native who became Nebraska's second governor in 1872.

Langdon, Missouri

Langdon is an unincorporated community in Atchison County, Missouri. It is located about six miles southwest of Rock Port. Its post office has closed and mail now comes from Fairfax. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Langdon, situated on the banks of the Nishnabotna River, was a resort town complete with hotel and fishing boat rentals.

Nemaha Half-Breed Reservation

The Nemaha Half-Breed Reservation was established by the Treaty of Prairie du Chien of 1830, which set aside a tract of land for the mixed-race, or Métis descendants of French-Canadian trappers and women of the Oto, Iowa, and Omaha, as well as the Yankton and Santee Sioux tribes. (In Canada such mixed-race people are known as Métis; they were numerous enough to develop their own ethnicity over the decades.
