As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 820, reflecting a decline of 80 (-8.9%) from the 900 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn declined by 10 (-1.1%) from the 910 counted in the 1990 Census. Interlaken was formed as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 11, 1922, from portions of Ocean Township, based on the results of a referendum held on May 3, 1922.
