WVEM-LP

Riverbend Township, Gaston County, North Carolina

Riverbend Township is a township in northeastern Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 26,596. It contains the northern portion of the city of Mount Holly, most of the town of Stanley, and a small portion of the town of Spencer Mountain, as well as the unincorporated communities of Mountain Island and Lucia.

Mountain Island Lake

Mountain Island Lake was created in 1924 to coincide with the building of Mountain Island Hydroelectric Station. It is named after the mountain which appears as an island in the lake. Full pond elevation is approximately 647.5 feet . The lake has around 3,281 acres of surface area and 61 miles of shoreline.

Battle of Cowan's Ford

The Battle of Cowan's Ford was a battle in the Southern Theater of Cornwallis's 1780–1782 Campaign that eventually led to the British Army's surrender at Yorktown during the American Revolutionary War. It was fought on 1 February 1781 at Cowan's ford on the Catawba River in northwestern Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, between a force of about 5,000 British and fewer than a thousand Americans who were attempting to slow the British advance across the river.
