The Quartz Mountain Resort Arts and Conference Center is a resort located 17 miles north of Altus in the Wichita Mountains of southwestern Oklahoma near the Texas border in the town of Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. Two-hundred-and-fifty students are selected for the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute annually and spend two weeks at Quartz Mountain living in cabins and lodges focusing on their area of discipline.

Lugert, Oklahoma
The town of Lugert was founded in 1901 on 80 acres in Kiowa County, Oklahoma. In the town, there was a general store that housed the Post office and sold dry goods, school supplies, groceries, harnesses, axes and much more. At the height of its prosperity the town had a bank, two hotels, two pool halls, two restaurants, a saloon and a lumberyard. On April 27, 1912, at approximately 12:30 p.m. a tornado hit Lugert, then a town of 300 inhabitants.
